Plymouth runs on vt7. lightdm is started to run on vt7 also. It just
sits there waiting for vt7 to become availabe, but after plymouth is
terminated (by "plymouth --quit") it doesn't recognize it is terminated
--- maybe this is related to plymouth using /var/run and lightdm using
/run?

After some time (more than 4h) no. Plymouth is running at the moment.
The laptop was started about 15:00. Its 21:00 now. In the background
lightdm was waiting. It has terminated meanwhile ...

As stated: the network devices are available. They are created: three bridges, ethernet, local loopback, and wlan. The bridges where funktional without any manual interaction before upgrading. Now only the first brige is started. The other two are ignored. There where no changes to the config file.
The bridges are assumed to be up at system startup. Maybe this is again related to parts of the networking setup using /var/run/network, while others use /run/network.

Yes. This theme is the standard theme, but with slight design changes:
the background image is different, and the "Ubuntu"-Logo was moved to a
better suiting place (to not disrupt the fine mountain view I am using
for the background).
