However gparted can be launched on a specific drive

from http://gparted.sourceforge.net/display-doc.php?name=man-page&lang=C

You can run *gparted* from a command line and specify one or more disk
devices.

For example, to start gparted with the devices /dev/sda and /dev/sdc you
would use the following command:

*gparted* /dev/sda /dev/sdc

the installer is the change I was pointing to not a change in gparted

if the "launch gparted" button was changed to respect the previous screen's
choice of drive

the installer would be more intuitive

thanks

Title:
installer launches gparted in default mode

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution:
  New
Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
gparted selects wrong drive by default

when installing, the first question about drive configuration is what
  drive to install to

the next question is configuring partitions, if you are to edit
partitions via the button provided it launches gparted <-- thanks its
  very useful :)

when gparted launches it selects the first drive by default, useful if
I was not launching after just answering that question

when I finished partitioning I checked over the rest of my f***up and found out what stupidity I had wrought

Please change this to launch gparted to the drive just confirmed in
the installer or have a disclaimer

thanks for all the awesome work!!

This is on LMDE I have not tried the other installers to confirm if it happens there too.
