Title:
  aptitude package pinning not working

Status in “aptitude” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “aptitude” package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: aptitude

  Version: 0.4.11.11-1ubuntu10

I just upgraded a server from 9.10 to 10.04, but then needed to roll
back PHP to 5.2 to support some code which used functions deprecated
in PHP 5.3. So after manually downgrading to the "karmic" versions of
the php5 packages on the system I put the following in
/etc/apt/preferences to prevent them getting upgraded again:

  Package: *php5*
  Pin: version 5.2*
  Pin-Priority: 1001

However that doesn't work - running "aptitude -syv full-upgrade" shows
that it would try to upgrade those packages to the "lucid" versions.
I've also tried using "Pin: release a=karmic", but that doesn't work
  either.
