I would like this bug closed please. I have created a new partition and
installed 11.04 onto it and am working with that. I have managed to
recover all my user files from the original partition but not mysql
databases. For some reason /var/lib is completely blank and that is
where the mysql files are located. This now empty directory may be the
cause for the reinstall failing, I don't know. The problems with 11.10
install where not recognising the swap partition and therefore hanging
on start up, and not having the session menu available on screen ie. the
start/stop icon was missing. The only way to get out of Ubuntu was to
command line run shutdown or halt.
