Removing /usr/share/doc doesn't explain this, no. Because those files
should have been recreated... or did you have a background script that was
removing /usr/share/doc *during* the installation?

And if you still have the problem, can you retry the installation
with "sudo dpkg -D111 -i /var/cache/apt/archives/bash_4.2-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb 2>log"
and send me the "log" file that it created?
