Is this still an issue with more recent versions of update-manager? The
releases this bug has been confirmed have reached EOL, and there has
been no activity for more then 3 years.

  dist upgrade tool 7.10 gutsy freezes

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  when I opened update manager it said there was a dist upgrade
  available. I used this method to upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 and the
  process was smooth, so I figured I'd do it again. However this time it
  gets to the second step and freezes when the bottom says checking
  package manager. the update manager icon in the notification area
  tells me that there are 932 upgrades available but I'm not sure it's
  wise to use that method. let me know what you need and I will gladly
  post it
