  gnome-codec-install crashed and did not correctly report an  apt error

Status in “gnome-codec-install” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I attempted to play a video in MPEG4 format without the proper codec
  installed. I asked that gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg be installed, but the
  installation failed with a blank error message and then the codec
  installer crashed.

  At the very least, the codec installer should report the apt error
  that is present in the traceback; even better it should succeed. It
  definitely needs to be more robust in the face of apt errors.

  It is not the case that the codec is uninstallable; immediately after the crash, I was able to run apt successfully:
