This bug is known as:
Bug#616502: dpkg: "malloc failed (-1739558537 bytes): Cannot allocate memory" for file >= 2 GiB 

Patch was integrated in ubuntu natty (11.04). It's required to fix this
problem into lucid (10.04LTS) release.
