Title:
icon for fs mounted by udev cut in half on display with larger virtual
  screen

Status in “udev” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: udev

This bug exists in Maverick 10.10 and also Oneiric (Ubuntu Classic display view). I don't know how to mark it for both series of Ubuntu, so I marked it for Maverick 10.10.
Could somebody please help mark it for Oneiric Ubuntu Classic too?

This bug applies when the display size is smaller than virtual screen
size, for example, a 1920x1080 display on a 1920x1920 virtual screen,
so that if you move the pointer down and below the bottom edge of the
display, the whole screen scrolls up, and also when moving the pointer
above the top edge of the display, the whole screen scrolls down. (if
you're not using a virtual screen, this type of display arrangement
might be a bit unfamiliar until you try it by putting Virtual
"1920x1920" into SubSection "Display", inside the Section "Screen" of
  /etc/X11/xorg.conf )

Anyway, the desktop has icons along the left edge of the display, and
the icons are nearly but not completely using up the whole of the left
column. So, the icons are all stacked vertically in the same column,
leaving a small empty space at the bottom of the display. There needs
to be about 12 icons. That leaves an empty space which is smaller than
  a normal size icon.

Inserting an SD memory card into the SD slot on a laptop normally
causes an icon to appear representing the newly mounted filesystem.

But because the left column is already nearly full of icons, the icon
for the newly mounted fs is displayed cut off at the bottom of the
display. Except for a tiny bit of graphics, the icon is outside the
display on the virtual screen, below the bottom edge (at more than
1080 pixels position). Only the top of the graphics part of the icon
is visible on the display. The text label of the icon is completely
  outside the display.

It's a pretty serious usability bug because you cannot read the icon
or see what the icon is. You probably won't even notice it.
