Updates should not be shown using an icon in the menu bar, for reasons
discussed extensively in bug 332945. The only effect of porting update-
notifier to application indicators would be to take up developer time on
showing updates using an icon in the menu bar. Therefore, this is a
duplicate.
I have unmarked duplicates of this report which were about apport-gtk.
Though neither of them should be sitting in the menu bar, apport-gtk is
not update-notifier.
