This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.7.36

---------------
ubiquity (2.7.36) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Showing and hiding the release notes and update the instaler links
are now handled in the Internet connectivity callback (LP: #856213).
  * Enter the GTK main loop to avoid the wallpaper setting resources
    being cleaned up (LP: #854179).

Title:
ISO testing, install dialogue, OSD + background mess

Status in “ubiquity” source package in Oneiric:

Bug description:
  ISO testing, image: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20110919
  /oneiric-desktop-amd64.iso

Following "Testcase: Install (auto-resize)", I let the machine boot
from the USB stick and got the default installation Ubiquity dialogue.
However, an OSD popped up and I was left with a curious OSD shaped
hole in the background. I suspect this is some kind of stacking bug.
The OSD message was not visible and I suspect it popped up because a
  wifi SSID was discovered.
