ychleo, on the Ubuntu CD/USB bootscreen where you can select Install
System, Check RAM, Boot from First Hard Drive etc just highlight Install
System and press E to Edit the boot command line. Add NOEFI to the end
of the first line (just move the cursor to that point and type in) then
hit Enter (or any other key indicated in the dialog) to proceed with
booting. Works for me!

Title:
amd64 debian-installer, natty from 04/05 fails
Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: debian-installer
Using the Minimal CD, current, for Natty, amd64 from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/
an error message is displayed:
error "prefix" not set
before grub displays its command line. Setting the prefix manually to
(cd0,1)/boot/grub/x86_64-efi and setting the root to root=(cd0,1) at
least allows to lad modules.
Typing "normal" brings up the usual selection in text mode, no splash.
However, none of the options works, everything ends with a black
screen. This might be two different issues, though, since this is on a
brand new Lenovo T420.
