Probably not the right place to report this - but I have never managed to shut down the laptop properly (on either 11.10 or 12.04). The screen gets stuck on the purple background, ubuntu logo, five dots (a couple of them are stuck lit up). Then nothing. At that point I have to force a hardware power off by holding down the power switch.
