Title:
Install from Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 alternate amd64 ISO image fails

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Attempting a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 from beta-1 AMD64 alternate
ISO image as a VM (under ESXi 4.1) behind a corporate firewall fails
on the step where it starts to try to install packages.

Network setup was manual with static IP address, netmask, DNS servers
and domain properly specified. Also specified proxy settings,
including account and password, as used for installs of previous
versions (10.04, 8.04, 11.10?) of Ubuntu off the alternate amd64 ISO
  disk image.

Note: Install of Ubuntu 12.04 from beta-1 AMD64 desktop ISO image
  succeeded under same environment.
