Appears to be same or similar bug. I was using Synaptic to update when crash report window reported 'The application Aptdaemon Software Management Service has closed unexpectedly"
Bug logging initiated and Synaptic continued reloading package data until apparently completed.

Title:
  plymouthd crashed with SIGSEGV

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: plymouth

Updated system with Update manager. Happened just after reboot. After
crash immediately went to Synaptic Package Manager and "reloaded ",
"apply updates" was greyed out, so I assume my system is fully up to
  date......

I did nothing at all except the above from power on.
