Title:
GRUB error: "out of partition" after a kernel update

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 about a week ago (around the end of
March 2012), and have upgraded the system last night (April 3, 2012).
The upgrade included kernel upgrades. After the upgrade, the grub does
not work properly. Although the initial grub menu shows up, it then
complains that "error: out of partition. hit any key.". So I did it,
  then the system boots up.

Also, when I take a look at Disk Utility, I noticed there is a 1.1GB
SSD partition, which I have never created, in my system. Three HDDs
installed in my computer are displayed under the installed devices,
but the 1.1GB SSD partition is displayed under attached devices. What
  the heck is this???
