Title:
  [Maverick Meerkat] Can't adjust brightness in VAIO VPCCW15FL

Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: acpi-support

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed in a Sony VAIO CW15 (VPCCW15FL) with
  privative NVidia drivers 260.19.36 downloaded from Nvidia.com.
  Compiz and animations work perfectly.

  When Fn+brightness keys are pressed (Fn+F5, Fn+F6) Ubuntu shows up the
  graphic sliders meaning that brightness has been increased or
  decreased, but actually the brightness it is NOT modified at all,
  keeping it at maximum.

  The nvidia driver has been set correctly in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I
  can use the NVIDIA X Server Settings correctly.

  I have the next files:

  *     /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/LCD/brightness     with the line:
                <not supported>

        Same for   /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/HDMI/brightness    and
  /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/CRT/brightness.

  * Files on /usr/share/acpi-support making reference to
  some files of /var/lib/acpi-support. But this last path has NO
  files, neither hidden.

  * The next files on /sys/class/backlight/sony

                + power           [ folder ]
                + subsystem [ link to one folder back: /sys/class/backlight/ ]
                + actual_brightness
                + bl_power
                + brightness
                + max_brigthness
                + uevent (empty file)

       with the 'brightness' and 'actual_brightness' files getting
  modified when pressing Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 keys.

  * /var/log/Xorg.0.log (attached) with this special lines:

                [ 37.529] (WW) NVIDIA(0): ACPI: Error: Unable to find the brightness file path under
                [ 37.529] (WW) NVIDIA(0): /proc/acpi/video. The NVIDIA X driver will not be able to
                [ 37.529] (WW) NVIDIA(0): respond to ACPI brightness change hotkey events.

  * Output of `dmesg' command (attached in case it could be useful)
