Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect <bug #566727> and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

Title:
Computer locks up (occasionally) completely when cryptsetup asks for
password
Status in “cryptsetup” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: cryptsetup
It may happen that the computer locks up completely as soon as the cryptsetup password prompt for my root partition comes up.
Nothing works: the Num key does not toggle the Num LED, not does anything of the Alt-SysRq does anything (e.g. Alt-SysRq-B to reboot).
This happens in like 1 out of 5 times.
And when it happens, I can only do a hard reset.
And just today, it failed 5 times in a row, after I've done the hardware reset - I had to completely turn off the computer and turn it on again to make it work.
This is nothing really new, and might have happened even during Karmic
rarely, but I'm not sure.
When I had installed bootchart some days ago (and just switched to grub2 at the same time), it happened 99 out of 100 times (it once let me insert the password, but locked up later): I had to boot via LiveCD and remove bootchart again.
I'm not sure though, if I tried cold booting then - which was required just today also (without bootchart).
It's probably not a bug with cryptsetup, but certainly triggered there
- I might try using a keyfile on a USB stick instead and see if that
prevents the lockup from ever happening.
