You probably have a corrupted package list. The following two commands
should fix it:

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update

If the commands do not work, please set the bug back to 'New'

** Package changed: ubuntu => apt (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
