I've just done this with the latest Ubuntu Alternate ISO and didn't have
a problem.  My partition setup was:

Apple partition table
Apple boot partition 
Ext 4
swap

I split the ext4 50%.  All was well.

  Incomplete

Bug description:
  The 20120423.1 image comes up with the error:

  "Partition disks
  Resize operation failure
  An error occurred while writing the changes to the storage devices.
  The resize operation has been aborted."

  Steps:

  1. Download image: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/214/builds/15996/downloads
  2. Verify MD5 checksum
  3. Burn image to CD
  4. Verify CD
  5. Begin install and try to resize

  Tried on two different media.
