I can confirm that this issue is still present on 32bit Ubuntu 12.04
FinalRelease.

  Ubuntu 12.04 installation failed - ubiquity crash

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Could be duplicate of bug #97756.  Well into install, after all
  questions answered, about 1/3 of the way "copying files" the ubiquity
  window disappears.  The whirly is still running so I think copying
  does proceed to the end of copying but a lot of the install never gets
  completed.  Do note the hardware, Thinkpad R31, can spend a very long
  time on a upgrade from 12.04 Alpha (installed just fine) to Beta 2
  without any problem copying.
