Public bug reported:
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 release version. Despite not selecting "install updates" it spent about two hours downloading kernels, language packs and translations. When the install was finished it later prompted to install another 9 updates (19 MB) but would just hang on the download part. I tried this after several reboots. The problem seems to be that it is not asking for the password. So I tried installing Synaptic and updating from there and that works fine.
Also, the update manager confusingly shows two icons on the unity launcher bar as if its running twice, but actually it is only the two windows (main and installer) for the application.
** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
