Title:
[intrepid jaunty] installation freezes on scanning the mirror

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Tried to install Gutsy using the alternate disk, and installed stuck
for hours "Configuring apt - Scanning for mirror...", unplugging
network cable did not help. Also, the system was overheating, probably
processor was maxed out (no idea why), so I had to shut down.

Tried again next day and eventually went past "Scanning for mirror".

This is pretty bad, if I install from CD I would expect to be able to
skip the mirror checking (and it should also time out on its own after
a reasonable time). Also, while scanning for mirrors the processor
  should not max out.

You can also reproduce this by unplugging the network cable during
installation, once your network connection is configured and the time
is set (when is starts installing the basic system).
