The error in the log is:
Setting up plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text (0.8.2-2ubuntu30) ...
update-alternatives: error: cannot stat file '/lib/plymouth/themes/text.plymouth': Too many levels of symbolic links
dpkg: error processing plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
This is a misconfiguration of the plymouth theme alternative. Do you
know how your system got into this state? This is not the first report
of this problem we've seen for 12.04 - in fact it's about the fourth or
fifth - so either there's a bug in some package which is breaking the
alternative, or there are bad instructions on the Internet telling
people to modify these files by hand in a broken way.
Please show the output of the following command:
ls -l /etc/alternatives/text.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/text.plymouth
After sending this information to the bug, you can fix your problem by running:
sudo rm /etc/alternatives/text.plymouth
sudo ln -s /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.plymouth /etc/alternatives/text.plymouth
sudo dpkg --configure -a
