Thanks. As a temporary workaround until we find how did the unparseable
entries appear, I sugges deleting the following lines manually:

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ partner
deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ partner

You can do this by executing the command `gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list` from a terminal, deleting the lines, and pressing Ctrl+S/Save from the menu. I hope this helps.

Bug description:
  Error message:

  'E:Malformed line 6 in source list /etc/apt/souces.list (dist parse),
  E:The list of sources could not be read., E:The package lists or
  status file could not be parsed or opened.'

  Using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  I cannot check the package version, or same error comes up. Also
  cannot open Software Center.
