John, when you say it was allowed before, when did this last work to
your knowledge? (confirming would be even better). I suspect it's
because lack of write support for HFS+ with journaling.. perhaps not.
gparted I think can resize this partition.

  Confirmed

Bug description:
  ubuntu 12.10 daily build.  It was missing the "Install ... along with Mac" option.  
  ubiquity 2.11.19

  Expected:
  the option should be present.

  Actual: 
  The option wasn't present.

  Regression: 
  It was allowed before.  

  NOTES: 
  There were only two options: "something else" or "delete Mac and install Ubuntu."
