I'm having the same problem on a Dell 17R machine trying to install
directly to disk (no virtual machine). The installation halts after
following the message "Stopping mount network filesystems."

Bug description:
  While running the ubuntu installer in a virtual machine the installer freezes while saying "Stopping mount network filesystems"
  the gui had not yet loaded.

  This affects ubuntu and lubuntu at least
