It seems like your flash-disk / target drive became "Read Only" during
the installation.

Can you please try the new point release images instead?

   Installation on a 16 GB HP USB flash drive. Live image running under
  Virtual Box on Mac OS X 10.8.0, MacBook Air. This is a reproducible
  problem with this flash drive. I shall try another drive.
