Phillip

With all respect it didn't appear that you very much thought went into your
initial statement.

Regarding the bug, Ubuntu wants to attract windows users, which means
usually they will dual boot.

Windows 7 has in place that if the MBR is not correct it will not allow SP
upgrades. Much like the secure boot fiasco with windows 8.

If we tamper(adjust) with the MBR of a novice user and reduce the
functionality of their machine without their knowledge I think that is a
failure on our behalf, not a bug in windows.

Title:
Installing grub to MBR interferes with Windows 7 upgrades

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
If you manually parition your hard drive on a dual boot computer in a
  manner such as

  /dev/sda1 - windows files(os)
  /dev/sda2 - windows
  /dev/sda3 - windows
  /dev/sda4 extended partition
  /dev/sda5 linux swap
  /dev/sda6 ext4 /boot
  /dev/sda6 ext4 /
  /dev/sda7 ext4 /home

The you install ubuntu and choose to install grub to /boot rather than
sda (MBR) the ubuntu install fails to find grub and boot after the
  installation completes.
