After filing this bug-report, i also threw in a "apt-get diet-upgrade" followed by a reboot, but it still breaks. The final error message in the apt.log is:
linux-generic:i386 Depends on linux-image-generic [ i386 ] < 3.0.0.28.32 -> 3.2.0.34.37 > ( metapackages ) (= 3.2.0.34.37) can't be satisfied!

  What did i do:
  1. apt-get update
  2. apt-get upgrade
  3. apt-get -f install
  4. apt-get clean
  5. apt-get auto clean
  6. do-release-upgrade

  I did the above a couple of times, but with the same result every
