Bug description:
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS CRASHES FLASHES blank screen (ctrl+sysRq no response)
I just downloaded Ubuntu 10.04; as the EMC2 ISO failed to install on my ASUS M2N-MX SE PLUS motherboard
so I thought I'll try a clean and up-to-date version of the 10.04 disdro (I am so tired I can not type)
I am on the LIVE CD of Ubuntu 10.04 which works however I am denied access when trying to submit
the $xorg_backup_file that the crash created. That is right... the LIVE CD runs perfectly on this computer; however,
after the install UBUNTU 10.04 crashes after "battery check [OK]
The screen FLICKERS and Poof Black Screen with a very tiny UNDERSCORE in the top left hand corner
of the screen... the tiny UNDERSCORE looks like the video card successfully applied a resolution one step
above a stable resolution; and then solid crash... tried CTRL+SysRq "NO RESPONSE"
So this is a solid CRASH not just a hang...
(EE) VESA: Kernel modesetting driver in use, refusing to load
(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error: no screens found

I have also tried to fix this since 10.04 started and tried tons of the common fixes noapic noapci nomodeset etc..
with no success. I am considered an expert on computers and if I can not fix this I imagine that a lot of new people
to Ubuntu have given up due to this experience.
Note: The current Ubuntu works fine... however, I need 10.04 because
of EMC2 doe not run on the current version of Ubuntu
Also Note: Because UBUNTU 10.04 crashes before it starts there is no
way that any noob can use the tools that your LAUNCHPAD requires.. so
your LAUNCHPAD won't get any reports from systems that fail to start.
So please don't ignore this post.
Some day the OS will prompt the user to connect remotely to submit and
solve these errors.. just not today.
I welcome all emails to " sir douglas cook at hot mail dot com " no
spaces
Please don't expect me to become a Ubuntu tech to resolve issues... I
am just a super user not a superman..
