Does DNS now work properly when the machine is connected to the VPN? If
not then I would suspect that the nameserver at 10.0.0.1 simply isn't
working. Is that really the address of the VPN nameserver? If not then
either your VPN server is misconfigured or there is a bug in
NetworkManager. If so, then the question is, why did DNS work when you
connected from a machine running an earlier release of Ubuntu? Is it
possible that nameserver 10.0.0.1 has simply stopped working since then?

Status in “resolvconf” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  After the resolvconf overhaul in Ubuntu 12.04, DNS resolution no
  longer works for VPN connections. Network Manager is able to connect
  to the VPN, but no domain names resolve.

  Please let me know what is needed to make this bug report more
  helpful.
