"About two weeks ago, I ordered two watches. A Rolex Daytona, and a Vacheron Constantin. I found your web site by chance, and decided to take a gamble and order these two watches. To my surprise and delight, my watches arrived in just under a week. The watches are amazing. We checked the Daytona against a real one, and you cant tell the difference. First class all the way. I just received my third watch, an A. Lange & Sohne!!!! The watch is fantastic!!! You can use me as a reference, if you would like. Just use my initials."

Subject: apt: updating from lighttpd w/ pipelining - connection reset
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.43.3ubuntu2
Severity: normal
Hi,
Symptoms: running an in-house debian mirror on lighttpd I've noticed
that sometimes the connection is "reset by peer" while downloading
packages. This happens fairly rarely (maybe 1% of the time, meaning 1
in 100 packages will produce the problem). Retrying helps. Also, adding
Acquire::http::Pipeline-Depth "0";
to the apt config - aka, disabling http/1.1 pipelining - seems to be a
valid workaround.
I have seen the warning 'man apt.conf' about this (namely, the server
not being RFC compliant); however, the RFC in question (2068) states
that "Clients MUST also be prepared to resend their requests if the
server closes the connection before sending all of the corresponding
responses."
I've reported this to the lighttpd developers
(http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/ticket/657) and (of course:) they say
it's on the client side.
This is lighttpd 1.4.11.
Any help would be appreciated to clarify where the problem is. tcpdumps
are available on request.
cheers,
Andras
