I agree, I tend to use more apt-get for my updates and it shows both the amount of data downladed and the additional disk space that will be used like :
30 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 29.4 MB of archives.
After this operation, 2,052 kB of additional disk space will be used.
It seems rightful that the update manager shows the same amount of
information as apt-get, because they are useful for any user.

Bug description:
The update manager shows on the lower left corner the amount of data
that will be downloaded for the updates, however one as a user is not
informed about how a given downloaded update will affect the data
capacity of his filesystem after the updates are installed.
I suggest that the net data capacity change information is shown next
or near the label with the amount of data to download.
