We are unable to determine the exact problem without more details. We need logs of the problem you have with Samba, what hostname are you trying to ping and what error are you having (timeouts, host not recognized, etc...). 
Log details of Samba, or logs of a terminal showing your problem will be fine.
Please send more details about it in order to help you with that problem.
