Jaunty reached end of life some time ago.  Are you able to reproduce
this on 10.04 or later?

Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Gparted fails to successfully create either an Ext3 or an Ext4 partition on my Samsung Spinpoint F1's (each a TB big). It aborts with an error message. I had to use Gparted Live 0.4.5.2 to properly format my drives.
  I saw a potentially similar issue (bug #317709) but that's been marked "fix released" since January, so I created a new bug report for this one.
