Title:
Boot interrupted after feisty upgrade--gives a command prompt for no
  apparent reason

Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “udev” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Since upgrading t Feisty a couple weeks ago, when I do a fresh boot,
the clock is set forward an hour and I am given a root console very
early in the boot process (before partitions have been mounted). I
get a bunch of errors, such as an fsck error about an invalid
partition and that several commands (apt-get, etc.) are not found and
that I can install them with apt-get ("try typing 'apt-get install
  apt-get'".) I'm told I can continue booting by pressing Ctrl-D. I
press Ctrl-D and the system starts as usual. All partitions and swap
are mounted correctly and everything works correctly (except that the
clock is always an hour ahead.)

I get this in a log:

fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/.tmp-254-1
  /dev/.tmp-254-1:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
      e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

/dev/sda3: Adding dirhash hint to filesystem.

  /dev/sda3: clean, 11/1026144 files, 69519/2048279 blocks
fsck died with exit status 8

But none of the partitions are corrupt or have a hard time mounting.

I do not get these problems when resuming from hibernate.
