As far as I can tell from the log files it looks like mdadm thought
there was a software raid array on the disks and then discovered that
only one disk was available:

Bug description:
  While testing the server Prunes with Oneiric Alpha3, during the
  installation there is the following message:

  The attempt to mount a file system with the type ext4 in /dev/sda1 at
  / failed

  You may resume partitioning from the partitioning menu.

  Would you like to continue?

  See the attached screenshot.

  A similar issue was not seen with the Natty server image.
