Thanks for the response Stjepan.

I am fairly confident that this problem is resolved with GParted 0.11.0,
and since the original setup is no longer available for testing I
recommend that this bug be closed (at least when 0.11.0 is available in
Ubuntu).

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gparted

  I have GParted v0.5.1 (and GNU parted v2.2 under the hood) on Ubuntu
  10.04. I also have USB disk (FUJITSU MHT2080AT, 80GiB) with three
  FAT32 (LBA) partitions. Firstly I unmounted first two partitions on
  USB disk then I started a shrink (resize) of second partition and an
  extension (resize) of first partition. The operation of these two
  tasks lasted very long time (maybe 1 or 2 hours). I even thought that
  something was wrong with partitioning process because only 20GiB have
  to be moved and there's no adequate progress indicator in GParted but
  that's another story. The problem is that after resizing finished,
  GParted reseted label of second partition to blank and set the label
  of first partition to "txref^M^J116" (or "txref??116" or something
  like this).
