Installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from USB, Installation ended w/o installing
boot loader, fixed with boot-repair stared from live-USB.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair

After this boot menu appeared.

When selecting Ubuntu (normal) the purple Ubuntu screen appears and stays idle;
Esc key triggers switch to terminal screen:
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
/dev/sda5: clean, 181251/17555456 files, 1811205/70218240 blocks
 * Starting mDNS/DNS-SD daemon[ OK ]
 * Starting configure network device security[ OK ]
 * Starting bluetooth daemon[ OK ]
 * Starting network connection manager[ OK ]
 * Starting CUPS printing spooler/server[ OK ]

Esc key triggers switch back to purple Ubuntu screen.

When selecting Ubuntu (recovery) there is no indication of a problem.
