gdebi doesn't have functionality of opening apt: links, you should
install and use "apturl" package for that.
** Changed in: gdebi (Ubuntu)

Title:
GDebi doesn't handle apturl
Status in “gdebi” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I'm trying to open apturls in Firefox (i.e.
http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/firefox or apt://firefox) with gdebi-gtk, not
with Ubuntu Software Center - but this doesn't work: GDebi appears,
but it doesn't load a file. On the other hand I can install (already
downloaded) deb-files without problem via GDebi. Is this feature
disabled together with the (former) possibility to add PPAs via
apturl? If so, why does USC distinguish between both and GDebi not?
Ubuntu 11.10, gdebi 0.8.1
