Same ubiquity bug for me (lubuntu 12.04 wget 2012-06-02).
May be similar to Bugs 984184 on Xubuntu and 978489 on Lubuntu and Bug
#985354.

Bug description:
zsync'd lubuntu 12.04 today March 30. checksum O.K. Install on
Thinkpad R31 (which has pae by the way) proceeding normally was
"copying files" then suddently ubiquity crashed and disappeared from
the screen. Lubuntu CD live still running O.K.
This Thinkpad will run ubuntu-2D and lubuntu alpha 2 just fine.
