This is an old bug but I have the same problem and it's driving me
crazy.

I could reproduce described behaviour using the following method:
1.) Install Maverick (I used it for a while, but I'm pretty sure this is not important)
2.) Update to Natty

* At this point, autocomplete fails e.g. for sudo and arguments of
aptitude/apt-get etc. (that's the first time I noticed)

I then tried to fix it with described method (fixing /etc/bash.bashrc
and checking /etc/bash_complete and /etc/bash_complete.d/*)

3.) Update to Oneiric

* Same thing happens again.

I suppose some config script is in fact faulty.

Title:
autocompletion is partly broken in Karmic

Status in “bash-completion” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: bash-completion

After Xubuntu Karmic RC installation enhanced autocompletion doesn't
work anymore. The shell only completes file paths and commands, but
not man pages, or apt packages, or commands with sudo.

I tried reinstalling bash-completion package, but it didn't help.
