Today i did an upgrade to lubuntu 12.04 and since the graphic driver before on oncelot was no good i just quickly chanced it to proprietor before i had the shut-down. After reboot the system started to run smooth and the very moment i wait for trip point 57°C to kick in.
Until that i might ad what i have experienced so far.
Visual, yes it is nice.
dpkg had a hang on reboot after upgrade and bug report got stuck.
If i wouldn't have quickly installed the proprietor driver i would be busted.
.....and WOW i have seen my system for the first time since several month below 60°C.
trip point 57°C works and is lowest fan speed now (48°C must have expired last year)
Trouble is i have difficulties in believing the values displayed.
Probably i only have paranoia like every win user has, in this case related to previous fan speeds and displayed temperatures.
I hope, i am just paranoid.
Have fun M.Peters
the guy who bought a Linux Laptop because he was sick of win

Title:
cpu resources divided to graphic driver
Status in “acpid” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Since we had this summer over 45°C and my Laptop did not overheat i was just surprised that after the latest kernel update my Laptop started to do an emergency shutdown now and then. My first try was to change the fan settings in the Bios and oops there is no such thing. Only a choice where you might keep the fan running (I never shut of) or you allow it to shut down if it pleases to do so. No temperature adjustment. After reading a bit HP site i found that they have a algorithm for fan control and it is obvious that is intended to keep the laptop silent.
Though silence is not my main trouble but a fresh fried cpu is.
Has anybody a idea how to overcome the HP silent treatment and get some adjustment to temperature settings by making the fan work earlier.
sensors tells me the following but all my feeble attempts to find and adjust it failed so far.
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +56.1°C (crit = +108.0°C)
temp2: +23.4°C (crit = +108.0°C)
k10temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +56.1°C (high = +70.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
I'm good with Horses not with bites (too many teeth).
