Probably https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/879324 is
the same problem.

Title:
dselect installs only dependecies, but not the directly selected
  packages

Status in “dpkg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 server

  # lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  # apt-cache policy dselect
  dselect:
    Installed: 1.16.1.2ubuntu7
    Candidate: 1.16.1.2ubuntu7
    Version table:
   *** 1.16.1.2ubuntu7 0
          500 http://hu.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I select a package in dselect which has some dependecies, after
selecting the dependecies and the package itself I expect that
"Install" should install all of them. But in 12.04 only the
dependecies are installed, the directly selected packages not. In
dselect the directly packages remains in "marked to install" state,
  but not installed.

Probably a multiarch problem, beacuse the dependencies installed
usually i386 packages not amd64 ones. Directly selected packages
(without dependencies) also installed as i386 packages instead of
amd64 packages though I selected not the ":i386" version.
