Title:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installation program silently stops on HP Pavillon dv
  4000 laptop

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have tried several times to install Ubuntu 12.04 on this HP Pavillon
dv 4000 laptop, and each time the installation program stops silently
in the initial phase, that is while the ubuntu logo and the moving
dots are still on the screen.

Previously I installed Ubuntu 11 og this laptop. That installation was
successful apart from the wireless network that did not work. When I
tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 11 to 12.04, the laptop did not reboot
properly after installation. In the boot process a message came up
that there was not a proper firmware for the wireless and a website I
could go to for finding the proper driver. However, since I was not
able to make Ubuntu continue the boot process without that driver, I
found no way of installing that driver. Hope this bug can be fixed as
soon as possible. (As concerning the version it was the current
version on your webside Friday that I downloaded that day.) I also
would like to add that I have extended the RAM on that laptop, so the
reason for the silent stop of the installation should not be lack of
  memory.
