I ran apt-get instead and it seemed to work.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

750 updates successfull.

Bug description:
  update manager ran, downloaded files, when installing them, stopped
  with message (in german): Kein exklusiver Zugriff möglich (no
  exclusive access possible).

  Was the second time that error occured.
