Title:
  update-manager does not start automatically

Status in Update Manager:
  Invalid
Status in “update-notifier” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Since upgrading to Karmic the update-manager does not download updates
automatically anymore. I chose to check for updates daily and to
download in the background (and later notify me). Well, there is no
  notification, never.

Just once I was notified when I entered my password in another
application (synaptic I think), but for months I could not reproduce
  this.
