Public bug reported:

Just upgraded from 11.04 to ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and lost the capability to
resolve names on the system. There were no problems indicated during the
install, however after the install performed the reboot, I have not been
able to resolve any domain names. My network cards all have my ISP's DNS
configured as they were prior to the install. but still unable to
resolve domains. Is this a known problem? Does anyone have an idea what
the problem might be?

** Affects: resolvconf (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
