I will close the bug because this Ubuntu version is EOL on the Desktop
and I'm quite sure nobody will fix this bug.

  cannot run apt-get after upgrading to ubuntu 8.04

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I upgraded from ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 by running 'update-manager -d' on
  my laptop thinkpad T60. After that,  when I run apt-get update it
  shows the message:

  apt-get: relocation error: /usr/lib/libapt-pkg-libc6.7-6.so.4.6:
  symbol
  _ZSt16__ostream_insertIcSt11char_traitsIcEERSt13basic_ostreamIT_T0_ES6_PKS3_i,
  version GLIBCXX_3.4.9 not defined in file libstdc++.so.6 with link
  time reference
